About
Hello! I am Rhys an Operational Researcher working at the UK’s Department for International Trade (now Business and Trade) in London. I am an electronic engineer by background with expertise in microsensros in Gallium Nitride and the processing of the outputs of said sensor with novel data science techniques.
Background
I received my PhD in Electronic Engineering from the School of Engineering at the Univeristy of Warwick in the Microsensors and Bioelectronics Laboratory under Prof. Julian Gardner, where I worked with the High Voltage Microelectronics and Sensors group at the University of Cambridge, and a spin off company, Flusso. While completing my PhD, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assitant, undertaking undergraduate teching responsiblilites on a range of modules and topics inculding digital electronic design, FPGA’s, low-level programing. In addition, I was co-lecturer on the 3rd year MEng module Fundamentals of VLSI Design, where I lead the practical component of the module.
For the past 3 years I have been applying novel analytical techniques to policy problems in the UK Government. These have included building large scale regression models, the use of the synthetic control method, and advanced time series forecasting.
